According to the WHO Global Status Report on Road Safety 2013, sub-Saharan Africa experiences 24 road fatalities per 100,000 inhabitants. This is among the highest in the world, with South America, North Africa and the Middle East losing 21 per 100,000 inhabitants. Latin America has 19.2 road fatalities per 100,000 inhabitants – this is more than three times the rate of some European countries.
