The Gertrude’s Hospital foundation in partnership with Cisco, Orange –Telcom and Kenyatta University school of medicine is testing modern telemedicine technology to be used very soon. The 2 year planning will finally pay off as the equipment is already in use. Experts will be able to diagnose cases from Narok and Kibera.
The equipment comes with an examination camera, headphones, telephonic stethoscope, vital signs monitor, otoscope, ECG and EEG. The screens will also be used for video conferencing so as to facilitate training and peer to peer liaison for health workers serving in these facilities.
Through this project, the hospital aims to be the pioneers in the country in the use of telemedicine to improve the health outcomes of people living in rural and underserved areas.
Orange has provided the bandwidth as Kenyatta University is dealing with adult care.
